About the speaker
Don Bennett currently serves as the Executive Director of Tri Cycle Farms, recovering and distributing over 150,000 pounds of food each year to nonprofit and community pantries experiencing food insecurity. He also currently serves in the NWA Community of Practice group dedicated to addressing recurring issues relating to food insecurity and health outcomes.
Don’s personal experiences with food insecurity and underemployment in the economic downturn led to the founding of Tri Cycle Farms in 2011. He believes that local and regional food systems and networks are at the very core of greenhouse gas reduction, climate change adaptation, energy and water conservation, underemployment, health disparities and all manner of social injustice issues. In 2013, as a member of the Fayetteville Forward Food Policy Council, Don contributed to community and city council engagement and education in urban agriculture. The Food Policy Council was responsible for the 2014 passage of an Urban Agriculture Policy for the City of Fayetteville, which increased allowances for those keeping chickens, goat, or bee hives within city limits.
