Nora Rahimian is a creative consultant who helps entrepreneurs achieve success on their terms, without giving up creative control, financial freedom, or personal integrity. She is also the co-founder of #CultureFix, a global network of artists, activists, and entrepreneurs who use their platforms for social impact, and she produces an annual hip hop festival dedicated to giving independent musicians a meaningful platform. Her work is based in the belief that our communities have everything they need to succeed, that art & culture can spark the paradigm shifts to make the world a better place, and that the radical change we imagine is both possible and necessary. About this FieldTrip

Ideas about professionalism and success in business are socially constructed, rooted in systems of oppression.

Because of this, any attempts at “diversity & inclusion” only reinforce existing power structures, forcing women, queer, BIPoC, and others to conform to the status quo rather than challenging the places where the status quo is problematic.

This interactive talk invites people to examine their preconceptions of professionalism, separate them from traditional norms, and replace them with new ways of thinking that actually invite innovation, creativity, and problem-solving from a broad range of people. Draws on real-life examples with opportunities for self-reflection and discussion.

Agenda

  • We'll start with some slides to provide a bit of historical context and theoretical grounding, then get into some discussion, and end with tips, tools, and strategies to decolonize professionalism in their own spaces. There's lots of space for questions, discussions, and interaction, but no one will be forced to participate. And the chat will be open so folks can choose how they best like to participate. And i practice what i teach! The workshop will be warm, human-centered, and hopefully, fun!

What to expect

Lecture format!

This is a more traditional format where participants absorb information through presentations and talks.

It will be recorded!

The recording will be shared within 24 hours in the follow up email for a 4-day window, and available at the top of this page. Make sure to register for access!

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And
” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
